FAQs
Find quick answers to the most common questions about our plumbing services. These FAQs cover what to expect, service details, and helpful tips to make scheduling easier.
Get out of the house immediately. Don't operate any electrical switches, light switches, garage door openers, or phones inside the building — a spark in a gas-saturated room is catastrophic. Once outside, call SoCalGas (1-800-427-2200) for an emergency response; they'll shut the meter and verify safety. Then call Plumbing Squad at (866) 324-9553 — we'll diagnose the leak source (pipe joint, valve, appliance connection), repair to code with pressure-tested fittings, and coordinate the gas company re-light.
Yes — natural gas generator installations are a common upgrade across LA County and Orange County, particularly with PSPS events and grid instability concerns. We size the gas line for the generator BTU draw plus the existing house load (typically a 1-1/4" or 1-1/2" supply for a 20-22kW unit), install a dedicated regulator if needed, and run the line from the meter to the generator pad with code-required shutoff valve at the unit. We coordinate with the electrician for the transfer switch and inspection scheduling.
Yes — CSST (corrugated stainless steel tubing) is permitted in California when properly bonded for lightning protection per NFPA 54/CSA B149.1 and installed to the manufacturer's specifications. CSST has advantages — fast installation, fewer joints, smaller bend radius — but the bonding requirement is mandatory and frequently missed by handyman-grade installers. Plumbing Squad's CSLB #1081283 covers CSST work; we install with proper bonding, support, protection from physical damage, and pressure testing.
Yes — Plumbing Squad pulls the gas piping permit, schedules the rough and final inspections with the local AHJ (LA City, Long Beach, LA County, Anaheim, Santa Ana, Huntington Beach, or the city where you live), meets the inspector on-site to walk through pressure tests, and closes the permit so you have proper documentation. We also coordinate with SoCalGas to re-light the meter if it was turned off during the work.
